CHP responds to media enquiries

People taking the Sinovac vaccine may not be effectively protected from COVID-19 until two weeks after their second dose, the Centre for Health Protection said today.   It made the statement in response to media enquiries on a patient of a case who received two doses of the Sinovac jab.   The 63-year-old male patient received the first and second doses of the vaccine on March 10 and April 7.   His specimen collected on April 14 tested positive for COVID-19.   The centre said it is carrying out relevant epidemiological investigations.   Based on the information from the drug company, it takes time after Sinovac vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and offer protection against the virus, the centre said.   People who took the Sinovac vaccine may not be protected effectively until 14 days after their second dose.   It also said that there is a need for members of the public to continue practising social distancing, good hand hygiene and wearing a mask in public after vaccination to reduce the risk of virus transmission.   At this time, combining the above measures with vaccination will provide the most protection against the virus, it added.
