Vaccination cases assessed

The Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunisation assessed six death cases with history of vaccination during its meeting today.   As of March 28, the Department of Health received a total of 13 death reports with history of COVID-19 immunisation from the Hospital Authority.   The cases involve nine men and four women aged between 55 and 80. Existing information indicates that most of these cases died of cardiovascular diseases.   Six of the cases were assessed in today's meeting.   The first case involves a 55-year-old woman who passed away on March 6. The full autopsy report indicated that the patient died of acute myocardial infarction due to aortic dissection. Other investigation results did not reveal any possible immunological reactions due to vaccine.   The committee considered that there was no causal relationship between the deceased's outcome and COVID-19 vaccination.   Four other cases involve four men aged between 59 and 66. Their preliminary autopsy findings were coronary artery disease, ruptured myocardial infarction and coronary thrombosis, coronary and hypertensive heart disease, as well as coronary artery disease with acute ischaemia.   Together with the remaining case who died of acute myocardial infarction, the committee considered that the outcomes of the deceased were not directly associated with COVID-19 vaccination.
