Hospital patient initially tests positive

The Hospital Authority today announced that a 72-year-old male patient at Pok Oi Hospital has preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.   The patient was admitted to the hospital’s accident and emergency department on February 2 due to chest discomfort and dizziness. He did not have any respiratory symptoms.   An admission screening test for COVID-19 was arranged for him and he was then transferred to the Medical & Geriatrics Ward for treatment.   Upon his preliminary positive test result, the patient was transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital's isolation ward for further treatment.   Six male patients who had stayed in the same cubicle with the patient and three nurses who tended to him when he vomited, were classified as close contacts. They will be quarantined for 14 days.   Another doctor who had examined the patient will undergo a 28-day medical surveillance.   The hospital areas concerned have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
