Hospital reports initial positive case

(To watch the full press briefing with sign language interpretation, click here.)   The Hospital Authority today reported that an isolation ward nurse at North District Hospital preliminarily tested positive for COVID-19.   At a press briefing, the authority’s Chief Manager (Clinical Effectiveness & Technology Management) Dr Linda Yu said the nurse took a virus test at a community testing centre on January 19 after feeling unwell for a day.   Dr Yu said the nurse last performed her duties on January 14 and that no patient was identified as a close contact.   “For the nurse who has tested preliminary positive for COVID-19, she worked in the isolation ward at North District Hospital in the recent three months. She all along wore appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during her work. We understand that she took care of various confirmed cases. Contact tracing and source-finding are still in progress.”   She added that the authority’s current PPE stock can be used for around six months.
